Lincoln County Commissioner Walter Chuck announces reelection campaign

Walter Chuck has announced his first re-election campaign for position 3 of the Lincoln County Board of Commissioners. Walter was appointed to in February of 2025, following Kaety Jacobson’s resignation from the Board.

“[Walter] has been a strong voice for coastal and Lincoln County interests in shaping decisions that have a direct impact on our economy and our way of life,” said Commissioner Claire Hall at the time of his appointment. Commissioner Casey Miller added that Walter “had that special something that spoke to me” before offering the motion to appoint.

Prior to this role, Walter served nearly 14 years as a commissioner for the Port of Newport, a critical economic engine for the Oregon Coast. First appointed in 2011 and subsequently elected and reelected, Walter played a key leadership role during a period of significant investment and change. He served as commission president and later as secretary/treasurer, helping guide infrastructure improvements, supporting our maritime industries, and protecting local jobs.

This experience was essential as Walter worked with local, state, and federal leaders to ensure that the Coast Guard’s search and rescue helicopter was returned to Newport after it had been reassigned to North Bend in October.

Walter is looking forward to a campaign that prioritizes doing the work over politics, that emphasizes responsible stewardship of county resources, transparent budgeting, and collaborative problem-solving. “Lincoln County needs to see its Board of Commissioners as trustworthy, reliable, and committed to ensuring that every resident and every business has the resources and opportunities to thrive here,” Walter said. “I’m running because I believe our community is strongest when we work together.”
