Walter Chuck is a dedicated public servant with more than two decades of experience working for the people of Lincoln County. He is known for his steady, collaborative, and solutions-oriented approach.
Walter was appointed to the Lincoln County Board of Commissioners (BOC) in February of 2025, stepping into the role with a deep understanding of local government and the challenges facing our coastal communities. He is committed to bringing practical leadership and making county systems work effectively and for the people they serve.
Prior to joining the Lincoln County BOC, Walter served nearly 14 years as a commissioner for the Port of Newport, a critical economic engine for the Oregon Coast. First appointed in 2011 and subsequently elected and reelected, Walter played a key leadership role during a period of significant investment and change. He served as commission president and later as secretary/treasurer, helping guide infrastructure improvements, supporting our maritime industries, and protecting local jobs.
Throughout his career Walter has served on numerous advisory councils and task forces to support interests central to Lincoln County’s economy, workforce, and infrastructure. These roles have included the Oregon Coastal Zone Management Association (OCZMA), the Ocean Policy Advisory Council (OPAC), the Northwest Marine Renewable Energy Center placement team, and Bureau of Ocean Energy Management intergovernmental task force on offshore wind energy. Locally and statewide, Walter has also been active in sportfishing and hunting advisory committees, and he was recognized in 2014 with the Fellowship Award from the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife Marine Resources Program for his conservation and advocacy work.

Walter and his wife, Rebecca, have called Lincoln County home since 2002. Rebecca serves as Project Leader for the Tualatin River National Wildlife Refuge. The family tradition of public service continues with their daughter working as a Paramedic for Pacific West Ambulance, and their son is currently serving in the US Coast Guard.
Walter was born and raised in San Francisco and lived in various areas of Northern California until moving to Harney County, Oregon, from 1995 to 1999. He then lived in Pasco, Washington, from 1999 to 2002, when his family relocated to Newport.

Walter is a true outdoorsman, spending much of his free time exploring Oregon’s wilderness, hunting, and fishing.
Walter has been an active public servant since moving to Oregon in 2002. Below is a list of boards, elected offices, task forces, and committees where Walter has offered his expertise to lifting up our community.
